David Snape at Parent's Home

After High School, David joined the United States Navy and served as an aviation electronics technician from 1986 to 1991.  He had many duty stations but was finally assigned to Barbers Point, Hawaii for the last three years of his tour.

David went to Atlantic County Community College in Mays Landing upon returning home.  He received an associates degree in Biology and another in Math & Science.

Next, David moved to Dallas to attend Parker Chiropractic College. During this time he received a Bachelor of Science degree in liberal science from Excelsior College, formerly known as Regent’s College in Albany, NY.

David transferred to Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, MO. where he became the student body president. However, much political strife and growing disillusionment with both the profession of chiropractic as well as those in the Student Council who opposed his wish to return student government fees back to the students, he left chiropractic school, never to return.

David worked in Toxicology for a couple of years as a toxicology laboratory technician.  Then he found a position in IT working for a company that made software for laboratories and hospitals. His stay there was short lived. Afterwards, David did some contract work for a while and was hired at the company he currently worksfor in Information Technology.

David never lost is passion for matters relating to health, fitness and wellness though. In 2002, he founded the http://tobeinformed.com website to talk about his views on health, fitness and wellness topics.

David became particularly interested in dental health after his own experience with gum disease symptoms.  His dentist had ignored a situation for years and then suddenly wanted to administer a costly and potentially painful treatment.

This prompted David to go out and find his own solution to the problem.  The dentist was surprised by the change in the state of gum health.  This made David wonder why his dentist seemed to know and/or share so little about stopping and preventing the progression of gum disease.

David began to realize the need for laymen (regular people or non-dentists) everywhere to have greater knowledge about gingivitis and gum disease. He recognized that the public is woefully ignorant about dental health and that many people think receding gums and lost teeth are a natural consequence of age.

David does not agree with this limiting viewpoint and has worked tirelessly to share what he knows about gum disease to help the public understand that there is more to having, fighting and  preventing gum disease than meets the eye.

This is the basis for the birth of his book: What You Should Know about Gum Disease .

David would like to partner with dental professionals everywhere.   He encourages everyone to work with a dentist or periodontist.  His book could actually be something that dentists give to all of their patients.  This book can fill in the gap on patient education that so many dentists are too constrained by time to handle. In fact, his book strongly encourages readers to NOT try anything without permission from their dentist or periodontist.

David hopes that dentist and layman everywhere will find value in his book and the book can contribute to greater awareness about dental disease which could  lead, in turn, to better dental health for everyone. Dave hopes that everyone, everywhere can find greater dental health.

David believes that much can be done with tools that we already have available.  He would like to see people save their gums and teeth and live richer, better lives as a result.  He believes that barring trauma, there should not be any tooth loss.
